How Does Hard Water Affect my Clothing?

Hard water has many negative effects on your body, your plumbing system, and your appliances.

Due to the fact that it makes it more difficult to create a good lather and rinse your hair, hard water results in tangled, dry hair that often has soap film on it. Additionally, because hard water cannot properly dissolve detergents and soaps, it results in skin that is dry, flaky, and itchy. The excess minerals in hard water can also directly dry on the skin, which clogs the pores and leads to acne breakouts. In particularly dry climates, hard water can even cause dermatitis or worsen the symptoms of psoriasis and eczema. Because detergent cannot fully work due to the presence of minerals in the water, it results in “detergent crud” on your clothes, making them not seem completely clean.
